Sample Letter To Customers When Business or Shop Is Shutting Down
We understand that not all businesses are successful and run for life, many a time people may need to close business for some or other reason, here is a letter format to write to your customer when you are closing the business.

Dear Miss Smith
As of November 3, 2012, Global Gems will be going out of business. We value you as a customer and would like to enlighten you on a going out of business sale that we will be having September 3, 2012. During this event, you will be able to take advantage of the discounts that will be placed on the remaining of our inventory.
Any arrangements that you have with us prior to the closing will be honored and all warranties on your merchandise will continue to be effective until the date presented in your contract. Any payments or outstanding bills that you have will need to still be paid in full under the prior arrangement. However, your payments will go to a different address, which you will receive another notice in the mail for separately.
Any orders that you have placed with our online website will be honored and you will have up to November 3, 2012 to request any exchanges. However, we will not be giving any refunds on these considering all inventory will be marked down 40% more than its original purchase price. Also, our website will be non functional beginning September 10, 2012.
Because of this massive sale, items will move quickly and you will need to pay a visit to the store to acquire more of your favorite gems. If you have any gift cards that need to be used with our store, you will need to use them by the November 3, 2012 or they will lose their value. You will not be refunded for them.
We will not be able to put any more items on a layaway plan, but if you have items already in this program, you will still make payments as arranged and send it to a different address that will be enclosed in a separate letter after we have gone through each person’s individual accounts. Any merchandise left on layaway at the time of the closing will be donated to a charity.
Unfortunately, you will not receive any of the money that you have put into it. Your continued patronage to our company has been truly appreciated over the years, and we are so grateful for having the privilege of satisfying your needs as our loyal customer. We do understand that the closing of Global Gems may be an inconvenience for those who have accounts still open, and because our first goal is to satisfy our customers, we are willing to make arrangements with individuals on open accounts.
We will be sending out a second letter with more detail on your individual accounts and they will include specific directions on where to send payments. There will also be a number provided for those who have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your loyalty and support over the past 15 years. We truly could have not been more successful without you.
